Though teacher communication beyond PTIs has been limited this past year, it has been as consistent as appropriate in the given environment. I have a website that I update regularly in order for parents to be able to see what is currently being studied and what assignments are due. I also send emails and make phone calls in order for parents to be informed of missed work and incidents in school. I will be working hard in upcoming years to build a routine of contacting at least one parent daily, just to check in.
I know that parent-teacher collaboration is essential in ensuring that students are getting the most out of their school experience. Research shows that when parents and teachers work together, students tend to earn higher grades, perform better on tests, attend school more regularly, display more appropriate behavior, and show more positive attitudes toward themselves and toward school. It is my goal to increase parent communication and involvement in the future, inviting parents into my classroom and ensuring that everyone is on the same page, parent, student, and teacher, in regards to our expectations both in and outside the classroom.
